Narrow Loss in BSL Cup Final

The Championship match appeared to come down to the woodwork, twice deflecting Kljestan's shots away rather than into the goal. Would that they had come home the match would have been then taken to extra time and ultimately PKs, if needed. But, there was more to the story of woe. The recently prolific pair of Patrick Mullins and Rob Vincent, whom recent history would suggest had a goal each in them, yielded nought. Quiet nights from Morris, Waston and Quintero sealed the fate.

In the end, a very game Gateway United, the Saints, bagged 5 goals to take the 5:3 victory in regulation.

Head Coach Preki said that he was proud, but dissatisfied. He will be conferring with his brain trust, including Tim Sherwood for retooling of the lineup in anticipation of the 2017 campaign.

Week 15 Gotta Catch 'em All!

Pokemon Go captured the attention nearly all players and staff at CAC, ruining training on Monday. Fortunately, order was restored for training on Tuesday, except for a brief moment when a Pikachu was rumored to be at the south goal on training field 2. That lead to a scramble for phones and the goal. Turned out it was a Pigey, so calm was quickly restored and training continued with no further interruptions. One assistant coach was rumored to have said after the melee at the south goal, "I wish they'd crash the goal like that in a match. Hmmmm...."

After several weeks of late lineups and other issues that were hindering the performance of Cumberland Athletic, Andy Williams and John Ellinger are no longer with the team. In their place are new Wild Mary leadership in the form of Predrag "Preki" Radosavljevic (most recently of Sacramento) as Head Coach and Tim Sherwood  (formerly of Tottenham and Aston Villa) as General Manager, brought in 3 weeks ago. Both of these men bring international experience, unique perspectives, and great respect from players and the ranks of professional managers. Preki said, "I would be remiss to not commend Andy and John for their work in building a strong foundation. I'm just the beneficiary of their work and I hope I do them credit." Sherwood noted, "The 'bones' of this team were strong, but organizational issues had cropped up. I'm pleased that ownership has responded to my requests directly and working with Preki has been a joy."

MCQ Week 1

Majors Cup Qualifiers this week! The Wild Marys travel to Capital District to take on the Gunners. While significant injuries have hit key players Robbie Keane and Bill Hamid, CAC has managed to score and obtain victories. Road trips are difficult, though as noted by coach Ellinger, "We do all we can with nutrition and training, but at the end of the day players miss their homes and routines for game day and it affects play on the field. We will apply appropriate tactics and hope to snag an early goal to get the Gunners on the back foot."

Roster Move

Needing to manage Bill Hamid's injury problem, Cumberland Athletic Club is bringing in Bobby Shuttleworth and releasing Ignacio Magnato. Director of Soccer Operations, Andy Williams, is quoted, "We are fortunate to be able to bring in Bobby who is an outstanding veteran and locker room leader."

RP fail...

A misunderstanding of the byzantine rules of the BSL means that Tony Tchani cannot be signed as a retention player. With no other players meeting criteria or coming to terms, the RP position will not be filled entering the 2016 season. The league office's official statement read, in part, "It is not uncommon for newer franchises to trip up on such matters, there is no shame." Director of Soccer Operations Andy Williams said, "I take full responsibility, but [REDACTED] these rules put MLS's salary cap rules to shame! We'll take greater care in our signings in 2016." [Ed Note: Intended all in fun, Freddy].

CAC Comes To Terms With 3 DPs and an RP.

Cumberland Athletic Club is pleased to announce coming to terms for 3 Designated Player contracts: Irish International Robbie Keane and American Internationals Lee Nguyen and Bill Hamid. American International Tony Tchani is also announced as CAC's Retention Player for 2016. Head Coach John Ellinger is quoted, "These four players provide the solid spine of the team with tremendous consistency. They are all leaders in the locker room and on the pitch. I couldn't be more pleased than to build the 2016 Wild Marys around these great young men." Director of Soccer Operations Andy Williams also expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the negotiations. "I just enjoy being around all these guys.
