Cumberland Athletic Club is pleased to announce the first signing in its renewed history, Michael Bradley, U.S. National Team stalwart. Using the special rules allowing expansion teams to trade for up to 2 players prior to the expansion draft, CAC came to agreement with Gateway United. In exchange, Gateway United obtains CAC's 2015 3rd round draft pick.
CAC is also proud to announce the hiring of the first coach for the team: John Ellinger. Ellinger had retired from his assistant coaching position at F.C. Dallas 2 years ago, but came out of retirement because of the opportunity for him to coach the first PSL team in his native Maryland. "How could I pass up the opportunity to coach in the area where I played my college soccer? I'm thrilled to be here and to be reconnecting to my scouting and coaching contacts."
Bradley brings a resume of play on illustrious European clubs Roma and Borussia Mönchengladbach. Since 2006, he has 91 appearances for the senior U.S. National Team and 12 goals. Bradley says of his arrival, "To work with Coach Ellinger again so many years after our time at the Bradenton Academy is a dream come true." About playing for an expansion club, "Of course, this will be a very tough league to enter anew, but I have confidence in the ownership and coaching philosophy. I'm here to work and to lead the youngsters we will certainly have."
